Championing Inclusion: Daniel’s Journey with East Suffolk Services

At East Suffolk Services, we believe inclusion is more than a principle—it’s a practice. That’s why we’re proud to share the story of Daniel Ball, a young man with Down Syndrome, who recently completed a bespoke six-week work experience placement with our Bereavement Services team.

Daniel’s passion for bereavement care began in 2017 when he helped with his grandmother’s funeral. From that moment, he dreamed of supporting families during one of life’s most sensitive times.

Working closely with Daniel and his family, our Bereavement Services and HR teams created a tailored placement that allowed him to gain hands-on experience in the work he loves. Supported by our operatives John Pallant and Matthew Baltzer, Daniel assisted with grave preparation, backfilling ashes plots, and maintaining cemetery grounds—always with care and dignity.

Daniel said: “It is my dream job and John and Matt are my dream team.”

Following the success of this placement, Daniel has been offered ongoing work experience in six-week blocks, continuing for as long as he wishes.

This initiative reflects our commitment to creating opportunities that recognise potential and foster dignity. We hope Daniel’s story inspires other organisations to embrace inclusion and make a difference.
