Waste & Recycling Services

We deliver expert waste and recycling collection services to residents and businesses across East Suffolk.

In line with new waste management legislation, which came into effect for all businesses and non-domestic premises with 10 or more full-time equivalents (FTE) in England on 31st March 2025, we are also geared up to help businesses with their legal obligation to separate food and glass waste from other waste streams.

These services will extend to East Suffolk residents by 31st March 2026 and micro-firms (under 10 FTE) by 31st March 2027.

Street cleansing

ESSL is committed to keeping the streets of East Suffolk clean and tidy through the variety of services we offer.

Our team use our fleet of mechanical sweepers to carry out scheduled and reactive channel sweeping of roads across the district. They also keep our beach resorts clean and tidy during peak seasons – making sure residents and tourists can take pride in, and enjoy, the area.

Bereavement services

We understand how difficult this time can be, and we take pride in our respectful and empathetic approach, which helps make the grieving process easier for families across East Suffolk.

We provide burial, ashes and commemoration services that offer choice and high quality, which are sensitive, accessible, and empathetic to the whole community.

After the interment, our dedicated and experienced Bereavement Services operatives will maintain the gravesite, including preserving any grass and landscaping around your loved one’s final resting place.

Fleet management and MOTs

We operate dedicated and independent MOT testing stations at our fully equipped workshops in Ufford and Lowestoft.

We offer scheduled appointments with fully trained and experienced mechanics and provide an unbiased report if your vehicle fails the test or emissions standard.

Facilities management

The unique selling proposition of our facilities management team lies in its ability to provide and deliver tailored solutions with exceptional quality.

Our expert team offers technical advice and support for all statutory compliance, planned preventative and reactive maintenance. This includes the repair and upkeep of public toilets, life preservers, street furniture, signage and street name plates, shelters and bus shelters, beach huts, doors and windows, play areas and equipment, fencing and walls, paths and roadways.

We operate a 24-hour call centre for out-of-hours repairs and make safes and secures for Town and Parish Councils.

The team also have extensive experience in event support, having delivered expert facilities management solutions at some of East Suffolk’s most high-profile events, including First Light and the Tour of Britain.

CCTV

Through the delivery of our CCTV monitoring service, we aim to promote public confidence by working in partnership with the Police to develop a safe and secure environment for the benefit of those who live, trade or work in the district.

We have a dedicated team of trained and vetted staff that operate from our specialist CCTV suite to deliver the service 365 days a year /24 hours a day.

Grounds maintenance

Our expert grounds maintenance team carry out a range of services in parks, open spaces, play areas, sports grounds, cemeteries and closed churchyards, car parks and verges across East Suffolk, including:

The management of grass for amenity, sport, and conservation purposes.
Maintenance of hedges, shrubs, roses, seasonal bedding, and herbaceous borders.
Control of invasive plant species and seasonal vegetation.
Redesign and planting of soft landscape features.
Sports pitch line marking and fine turf management of public, private and educational premises.
Inspection, management, and maintenance of trees in both public and private areas.

Parking & Cash Collection Services

We administer Civil Parking Enforcement (CPE) on behalf of East Suffolk Council (ESC) and Suffolk County Council (SCC) for on-street parking of at least 1,157 roads throughout the district.

Our Civil Enforcement officers also patrol and enforce parking restrictions in 94 East Suffolk Council off-street car parks, serving Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) where necessary to encourage driver compliance with regulations.

All of our Civil Enforcement Officers are WAMATAB Level 2 Parking qualified, enabling them to conduct their duties in accordance with the Traffic Management Act 2004.

The Parking Services team also carries out a cash collection operation where SIA Cash and Valuables in Transit (CViT) qualified operatives are responsible for the safe transit of parking income from East Suffolk Council carparks.
